Trump Labor Department Boosts Apprenticeship Push with New Website

Trump Labor Department Boosts Apprenticeship Push with New Website
“Trump's administration has aggressively promoted apprenticeships as an alternative to higher education, arguing there is a strong demand for skilled workers not currently being met and that they provide good-paying careers without having to incur the debt typically entailed by higher education,” Sean Higgins reports for Washington Examiner.

Yesterday, the Labor Department unveiled a new website to promote such opportunities, apprenticeship.gov—a one-stop resource for Americans looking to pursue one of these programs. Click here to read more.

“The Trump administration’s continued attention to economic matters – despite the liberal media’s daily efforts to get him and his team off-balance through dishonest reporting and smear stories – is paying off,” former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich writes in Fox News. “The average American sees the economy getting better and better. And the average American increasingly thinks the success is due to President Trump.”

In an exclusive interview with
RFD-TV, President Trump “addressed the many pressing issues currently facing farmers, ranchers and all Rural Americans,” Abe Goolsby writes. “A Mexico deal is signed, and it’s going to open up Mexico even more,” the President said. “It’ll be far better than NAFTA.”

“Judge Brett Kavanaugh is legal scholar, a judge who respects and adheres to the Constitution, and a good man. I think he’s the type of person we need serving on the Supreme Court of the United States dealing with the tough issues the court will address that affect Ohioans and Americans everywhere,” Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) writes in the Clermont Sun.

“More than 100 students, alumni, and faculty at Yale College have endorsed Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, lauding President Trump’s nominee as a ‘distinguished jurist’ with ‘deep conviction and integrity,’” Melissa Quinn reports in the Washington Examiner. “The members of the Yale community cited Kavanaugh’s involvement with his alma mater and the community in the D.C. area where he lives.”

The reviews for President Trump’s U.S.-Mexico trade deal are in

The reviews for President Trump’s U.S.-Mexico trade deal are in

The success of President Donald J. Trump’s preliminary trade deal with Mexico is clear from the broad support it’s attracted. Following this week’s announcement, the U.S. stock market reached record highs, while everyone from business leaders to labor unions praised the agreement’s stronger terms for American products and American worker
The S&P 500 and NASDAQ climbed to all-time highs following Monday’s announcement. And it wasn’t just the U.S. stock market that responded positively: Global markets took off as well. According to Reuters, “a global stocks index advanced to more than five-month highs on Tuesday,” clearly buoyed by investor optimism. “Indexes across Europe and Asia followed Wall Street’s lead, inching to multi-month highs.”
As promised by President Trump, American workers stand to gain by renegotiating trade deals on the world stage. Christian Science Monitor had this to say about delivering on that promise: “A new United States-Mexico deal could end up doing something novel for an international trade agreement: putting concerns of workers near the center of the accord.
The support for President Trump’s NAFTA renegotiation runs broad and deep.
A historic moment: Presidential descendants visit the White House
This week, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted the first-ever White House Historical Association’s “Presidential Sites Summit.” Leaders from more than 100 Presidential sites across the country were in Washington, D.C., to honor our national traditions.
To keep history alive, Presidential descendants gathered for the summit and shared personal stories. The families of past Presidents serve a vital role in reconnecting with our country’s rich heritage. In The Daily CallerKatie Jerkovich wrote that “the summit brought more than 40 presidential descendants of former Presidents of the United States — all the way back to James Monroe — together for the first time ever.”
“Congratulations to @WhiteHouseHstry on a successful #PresidentialSites Summit. It was great hosting you at the @WhiteHouse,” the First Lady tweeted.

Fighting for drug-free communities

The White House to you

Fighting for drug-free communities
Families across the country are affected by the dangers of substance abuse and dependency. President Donald J. Trump's was no different.
“I had a brother who had a really big alcohol problem,” the President said from the White House this afternoon. “A very tough thing for our family.” Now, a new crisis of addiction is leaving its mark on America: “Sadly, in 2017, an estimated 134 Americans die each day from opioid-related overdoses.”
So today, in honor of the 20-year anniversary of the Drug-Free Communities Support Program grant awards, President Trump announced $91 million in grants to a record 731 local drug prevention groups across all 50 states. “We’ve never done anything to this extent. We’ve never done anything this large.”
The program works, the evidence shows. “The Drug-Free Communities Program is a proven success, cutting alcohol and prescription drug abuse by an average of nearly 20 percent among high-school students and participating communities,” President Trump said. “Incredible what they’ve been able to do.”
President Trump awards historic number of Drug-Free Community grants.
Watch: President Trump tell his family’s story on substance abuse.
We knew growth was strong. It just got stronger.
Last month, President Trump addressed Americans from the South Lawn of the White House. “I am thrilled to announce that, in the second quarter of this year, the United States economy grew at the amazing rate of 4.1 percent. We’re on track to hit the highest annual average growth rate in over 13 years.”
Turns out, the news is even better. With more complete data now available, a new Commerce Department report released today reveals that America’s economy grew even faster than initially estimated in the second quarter: a 4.2 percent annualized rate.
The second quarter was the first full quarter with President Trump’s tax cuts in effect. More money in the pockets of America’s working families—along with historic regulatory reform and new, America-first trade deals—has the U.S. economy setting records by the day.
Business Insider: U.S. growth in second quarter gets revised higher
The big picture: 85 percent of blue-collar workers optimistic about future

NYT: “Dozens at Facebook Unite to Challenge Its ‘Intolerant’ Liberal Culture”
“The post went up quietly on Facebook’s internal message board last week. Titled ‘We Have a Problem With Political Diversity,’ it quickly took off inside the social network,” Kate Conger and Sheera Frenkel report for The New York Times. “We are a political monoculture that’s intolerant of different views,” senior Facebook engineer Brian Amerige wrote in the post.

“Consumer confidence rose in August to its highest level since October 2000, building on July’s solid result,” Michael Sheetz reports for CNBC. “These historically high confidence levels should continue to support healthy consumer spending in the near-term,” said Lynn Franco, director of economic indicators at The Conference Board.

“The Senate reached a deal Tuesday to swiftly confirm seven federal district court judges, helping President Donald Trump put an enduring stamp on the U.S. judiciary,” Sahil Kapur reports for
Bloomberg. “The latest confirmations mean Trump, with the help of Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, has already confirmed 60 judges to the courts."

In
The Hill, John Bowden shares Vice President Mike Pence’s views on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation process. “Justice Antonin Scalia was confirmed 98-0 and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg received support of 96 Senators. If we lived in a more respectful time, Judge Brett Kavanaugh would be overwhelmingly confirmed,” the Vice President wrote.

“U.S. and Mexican trade negotiators proved the naysayers wrong by striking a new deal replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Luis Videgaray Caso said Monday night,” Kathryn Blackhurst writes in LifeZette. “A lot of people thought that NAFTA would be over last year — early last year — and that there was no way to fix this relationship," Caso said

‘I Have a Dream,’ 55 years on

The White House to you

The White House • August 28, 2018

‘I Have a Dream,’ 55 years on

Fifty-five years ago today, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and delivered what would become one of the great speeches in America’s history at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
Half a century after “I Have a Dream,” President Donald J. Trump says “our Nation reaffirms our commitment to protecting the promise of America for all our people.” That promise includes expanding opportunity for every citizen. “As a result, for example, we have already seen the unemployment rate for African Americans reach a record low.”
Read President Trump’s message on the 55th anniversary of “I Have a Dream.”
Markets soar as President announces new deal

A day after President Trump announced a preliminary trade deal with Mexico, news broke that consumer confidence in August has reached its highest level since October 2000, CNBC reports. That’s big news: Consumer spending accounts for about 70 percent of all U.S. economic activity, so economists pay close attention to it. “These historically high confidence levels should continue to support healthy consumer spending in the near-term,” said Lynn Franco, director of economic indicators at The Conference Board.
The S&P 500 and NASDAQ also soared to record highs yesterday as President Trump made good on his promise to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). “This is something that’s very special for our manufacturers and for our farmers from both countries,” President Trump told President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto in a phone call from the Oval Office yesterday.
“The Teamsters Union has long been a leader in demanding real reforms to NAFTA to make it work for workers across all of North America,” Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa said. “We believe that the Administration has taken real steps to deal with our concerns.”
CNBC: Consumer confidence pops to highest level since 2000
In their words: “Our Negotiator-in-Chief will close a deal [for] all Americans.”
Ivanka Trump: Why we must empower women

Yesterday, Ivanka Trump joined Ambassadors from across the Western Hemisphere at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C. Her message was simple: Women’s economic empowerment makes everyone better off.
“We believe, we know that the world is more prosperous, more peaceful when women can fully participate in the economy,” Ms. Trump told OAS. “Advancing economic opportunity for women in our hemisphere is essential to fostering lasting peace, stability, and opportunities in the Americas

A Major Victory on Trade

A Major Victory on Trade
“President Trump won a major victory on trade on Monday, supplanting the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and replacing it with something far more beneficial. The new deal will help American workers and manufacturers. It’s also a win for Mexico,” Christian Whiton writes in Fox News.

Whiton notes that the President’s trade critics “have been proved wrong by an unmitigated victory for the USA. Trump understood the simple math that countries with which we have trade deficits would have to come to the negotiating table.”

In The Washington Times, Gabriella Muñoz reports that “most Americans don’t want to see the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency abolished,” according to a new survey. “Only 24 percent of voters advocated for terminating ICE while a 40 percent plurality disagreed with the proposal. The trend continued across all political parties,” she notes.

The Trump Administration’s Affordable Clean Energy Rule “respects how America’s founders limited authority of the federal government for good reason,” the
Colorado Springs Gazette Editorial Board writes. “This plan assists states, consumers, and the market in achieving cleaner air with guidelines, proposed technologies, and incentives that work for diverse regions of the country.”

First Lady Melania Trump “planted an Eisenhower oak sapling Monday afternoon on the White House’s South Lawn. . . Mary Jean Eisenhower, the granddaughter of former President Dwight Eisenhower, and Richard Emory Gatchell, Jr., a fifth generation grandson of former President James Monroe, joined the First Lady,” Diana Stancy Correll reports in the Washington Examiner.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's former colleagues at the Kirkland & Ellis law firm sent a letter Monday to the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee urging his confirmation by the senate,” Cameron Cawthorne reports in The Washington Free Beacon. “We saw first hand that he consistently displayed a keen intellect, sound judgment, exceptional analytical ability, and the highest level of integrity in representing our clients,” Judge Kavanaugh’s former colleagues write.

Today, another big promise kept

The White House to you
Tuesday, August 28, 2018

1600 daily
The White House • August 27, 2018
Today, another big promise kept
Announced this morning, President Donald J. Trump is delivering on his promise to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) so all American workers can benefit. After years of promises by politicians, this is the first time that a modern American trade agreement has been renegotiated.
The 24-year-old NAFTA was outdated and unbalanced, hurting American jobs and businesses as factories closed and jobs were exported. The old deal contributed to our ballooning annual goods trade deficit, which grew from $115 billion in 1993—the year before NAFTA’s implementation—to a staggering $800 billion in 2017.
The new U.S.–Mexico Trade Agreement protects American workers, American manufacturing, and American agriculture. New “rules of origin” requirements will encourage billions a year in vehicle and automobile parts production in the United States, supporting high-wage jobs across the country. The deal will also include the strongest, fully enforceable labor standards of any trade agreement.
“Many people thought that this was something that just couldn’t happen because of all of the different factions, all of the different sides, and the complexity,” President Trump said this morning. “And we made it much simpler, much better. Much better for both countries.”Get the facts: President Trump keeps his promise to renegotiate NAFTA.

Two First Ladies, two campaigns for children

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta of the Republic of Kenya and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta to the White House today. During President Trump’s bilateral meeting with President Uhuru, Mrs. Trump and Mrs. Kenyatta discussed their respective initiatives on behalf of children: Mrs. Trump’s Be Best campaign and Mrs. Kenyatta’s Beyond Zero Initiative.
“The determination with which Kenya strives to create better lives for its children is a shared compassion with the United States,” Mrs. Trump said. “I am very much looking forward to visiting Africa.”Watch President and Mrs. Trump host the President and First Lady of Kenya.
