James McCloughan to Receive Medal of Honor

The White House to you
Tuesday, August 01, 2017

"Trump to award first Medal of Honor to Vietnam Army medic"
- Darlene Superville, Associated Press

On Monday, President Donald Trump will award America’s highest military honor to James McCloughan, an Army medic from Michigan, who “risked his life multiple times to rescue Vietnam War comrades,” according to a report in the Chicago Tribune. McCloughan voluntarily entered the “kill zone” to rescue his Army comrades, “even as he was pelted with shrapnel from a rocket-propelled grenade,” the Tribune writes. He’s risked his life on nine separate occasions, and suffered wounds on three different occasions, “but refused medical evacuation to stay with his unit, and continued to brave enemy fire to rescue, treat, and defend wounded Americans,” the White House said in its announcement last month. On Obamacare repeal and replace, The Arizona Republic’s Robert Robb writes that the Obamacare exchanges are “imploding” and Democrats in Congress “don’t really want to fix Obamacare. They just want to prop it up with more subsidies.”

Meanwhile,
The Federalist’s Ben Domenech explains why Republicans’ lies are to blame for their failure to repeal and replace Obamacare, with many GOP Senators willing to “talk the talk,” but not “walk the walk.”

The
Orange County Register editorial board writes that the President “may have a point” in calling for the Senate to get rid of the filibuster to pass health care reform, saying “the Founding Fathers wanted the legislative process to be slow and deliberative, but they did not want it held hostage to a requirement for supermajority support.”

In the Trump Administration’s quest to lower drug prices and make healthcare more affordable,
Bloomberg View’s editorial board praises FDA Administrator Scott Gottlieb and his strategy to bring down drug prices through greater competition from generics.

Regarding historic Democratic obstruction, at
Fox News, former U.S. Sentencing Commission economist John R. Lott writes that “Democrats have done everything they can to slow down all of President Trump’s nominees,” highlighting the case of “non-controversial” nominee of Kevin Hassett to be CEA chair.

It’s Time To Secure Our Borders

The White House to you
Saturday, July 29, 2017

"On Long Island, Trump to highlight violence from MS-13 gang to push Congress on immigration." -David Nakamura
David Nakamura at the Washington Post details President Trump’s efforts to eradicate the violent MS-13 gang in America’s cities. The President will be visiting Suffolk County on Long Island, which has seen a surge in violent crime from the gang – 17 murders in over 18 months – the Washington Post reports. The President will deliver “a very forceful message about just how menacing this threat is,” and highlight “the systemic consequences of our failure to enforce immigration laws over many years,” a White House aide told the Post. The President will use the speech to lay the foundation of his immigration policy – which includes arresting and removing violent gangs, bolstering the number of ICE and Customs Border Patrol officers, constructing a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, and urging the passaging of the sanctuary cities and Kate’s law in the U.S. Senate. After the failed healthcare vote, Avik Roy in the National Review writes, “the GOP cannot simply `move on’ and give up on health care. Health care is the biggest driver of our debt and deficit, the biggest driver of growth in government, and one of the biggest drivers of economic insecurity for those in the middle class and below,” he emphasizes, noting healthcare reform isn’t “optional.”

Yesterday, the President honored Alexandria, Virginia’s first responders.
CBS News reports that “President Trump honored five first responders to the Alexandria congressional baseball practice shooting Thursday afternoon at the White House with Medals of Valor, the highest decoration of bravery bestowed upon public safety officers.”

On the domestic energy front,
Reuters reports that “U.S. coal exports have jumped more than 60 percent this year,” in a sign that President Trump’s “efforts to revive the battered industry are working.”

In the
Wall Street Journal, Kimberley Strassel questions, “who paid for the ‘Trump Dossier’” acknowledging Democrats don’t want you to find out – “and that ought to be a scandal of its own.”

It's Time to Repeal and Replace

The White House to you
Friday, July 28, 2017

The Time has come for Republicans to Repeal and Replace
Larry Elder in Real Clear Politics acknowledges Republicans have a tough path forward in repealing and replacing Obamacare, but he also reminds us of the Democrats’ ultimate goal: a single-payer system. During the 2008 presidential campaign, former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama’s healthcare proposals: “I think while someday we may end up with a single-payer system, it's clear that we're not going to do it all at once, so I think both candidates' health care plans are a big step forward." As Mr. Elder points out: “In other words, Obamacare was just a steppingstone along the path,” noting it “was intended to fail.” It’s now up to Republicans to chart a new course. Click here to read more.

In The Washington Post, health care expert Avik Roy writes that the beginning of debate on Obamacare repeal in the Senate “is a critical milestone in the effort to make American health care more sustainable and affordable.”
CNBC reports on Wednesday’s announcement at the White House that Foxconn “will invest $10 billion to create a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Wisconsin,” creating 3,000 jobs that could eventually grow to 13,000 jobs.

Greg Ip at
The Wall Street Journal writes on the insidious “myth of Trump’s do-nothing presidency.” As Ip notes, “(t)o gauge a president’s impact you have to go beyond the laws he signs to the vast authority he wields through departments and agencies that apply the law. On that score, Mr. Trump is on track to do a lot.” According to Sofie Miller of George Washington University’s Regulatory Studies Center, “(t)he latest update on regulatory actions released last week by the White House Office of Management and Budget contained 1,731 preliminary, proposed or final rules, down 40% from its peak under Mr. Obama in 2011 and a 17-year low.”

In
USA Today, Joseph Murray argues President Trump’s military transgender ban helps protect military readiness – that with “North Korea, Syria and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria posing serious threats, the U.S. military needs to be focused on defeating these enemies and not locker rooms, restrooms and re-assignment surgeries.”

Emily Jashinsky in the
Washington Examiner looks at a Military Times/Institute for Veterans and Military Families poll, which reported more than three-to-one service members were against an Obama-era policy to allow transgender individuals from serving openly in the military, with 41 percent saying it hurt military readiness, and only 12 percent saying it helped.

The Rust Belt Gave President Trump a Hero’s Welcome

The White House to you
Thursday, July 27, 2017

"Why the Rust Belt just gave Donald Trump a hero’s welcome"
- Salena Zito, in the New York Post
Last night in Youngstown, Ohio, the “town was on fire,” writes Salena Zito, in the New York Post. Preparing for the President’s visit, “By 1 in the afternoon on Tuesday, every main thoroughfare downtown was filled with happy people heading toward the Covelli Centre,” Zito reported. She interviewed Donald Skowron, a retired police officer, who said he was “very happy with the president’s performance so far,” and Dave Torrance who said the president is “doing the right things.” She offers insights into how the President connects with working class voters, and how he is offering them hope that once again, the American dream is alive.

Obamacare burdens and costs must end

The White House to you
Wednesday, July 26, 2017

"Time to discard the burdens and costs of Obamacare"
- Secretary Rick Perry, in the Cleveland Plain Dealer
Department of Energy Secretary Rick Perry writes in the Cleveland Plain Dealer that since Obamacare’s passage, “America has been staggering under its burdens and failures.” He notes how insurance companies have abandoned its exchanges, premium costs have skyrocketed, and patients have lost both choices to doctors and insurance plans. Secretary Perry recounts his experience as governor of Texas, noting his home state “has done a number of innovative things to improve health care in ways we knew made sense for Texas,” innovations that “Washington would not have known.” He urges Congress to act, writing “there is an historic opportunity for Congress to finally empower people and states and move control out of Washington. There will not be another opportunity like this for a very long time.”

The New York Post reports on President Trump’s statement Monday urging Senators “in no uncertain terms” to fulfill their promises to pass an Obamacare repeal bill.

While in
The Hill, George Washington University economist Diana Furchtgott-Roth writes that the "CBO should recognize that its estimates of the costs of healthcare reform bills are simply wrong,” saying, “what ordinary Americans know, and what is clearly not reflected in the CBO scores, is that the ObamaCare exchanges are not working and the system is about to collapse.”

On the immigration front,
The Daily Caller reports that in light of the recent deaths of a number of illegal immigrants in San Antonio, some Texan officials have attacked sanctuary cities for enabling and encouraging human traffickers

In an interview with the
Washington Examiner, the Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Thomas Homan said he believes that sanctuary cities have led to increased levels of crime, saying “these cities are choosing to shield people who violated the laws of this country.”

Obamacare Has Wreaked Havoc on Innocent Americans

The White House to you
Wednesday, July 26, 2017

For seven years, Obamacare has wreaked havoc on the lives of innocent, hard-working Americans. The question for every Senator, Republican or Democrat, is whether they will side with Obamacare's architects or with its forgotten victims. The American people have waited long enough, and now is the time for action. We must repeal and replace Obamacare.

"A resurgence of the arsenal: Making manufacturing great again will make America great again"
- Editorial Board, The Washington Times
The Washington Times editorial board praised President Trump’s “Made in America” week, taking on its critics writing, “working hard and promoting American industry and ingenuity is no joke, and neither is an event to showcase the nation’s capacity to create jobs and prosperity.” It cited shrinking manufacturing workforce numbers, or the so-called “arsenal of democracy,” as Franklin D. Roosevelt called it. If Mr. Trump’s “words inspire a resurgence of American innovation, imagination and production, we’ll share in the fruit of that resurgence – even the mocking critics of the left,” the Times penned.

At Fox News, Stuart Varney argues that one of the President’s greatest achievements thus far is the $4 trillion increase in the nation’s wealth since election day, writing that “anyone with a 401k, an IRA, college savings, retirement savings, mutual funds” or other investments has “taken a piece of that $4 trillion.”

Jobs. Jobs. Jobs.
CNBC reports on Corning’s Thursday announcement with President Trump at the White House that the company will “immediately” invest $500 million in new U.S. production as part of a collaboration with Merck and Pfizer, creating 1,000 new American jobs.
CNS News reports how the mining, construction, and manufacturing sectors are fueling the economy. Mining grew “by a booming” 21.6 percent in the first quarter, with construction growing 5.6 percent and manufacturing 4.7 percent, according to data released today by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Yet another reason to repeal and replace. The
Arkansas Democrat-Gazette editorial board highlights California’s Medicaid expansion as an example of ObamaCare’s failures, writing that many people with coverage have little to no access to the care and doctors they want.

Senate announces vote on health care reform for next week

The White House to you
Friday, July 21, 2017

"Trump Urges Senators to Pass Obamacare Repeal"
- Erica Werner and Alam Fram, Associated Press
The Boston Globe reports how President Trump invited GOP Senators to the White House for lunch on Wednesday and told them they “must not leave town for their August recess without sending him an ‘Obamacare’ repeal bill to sign.” The President sits with pen at hand, ready to sign legislation that the GOP has been campaigning on for the last seven years. After the meeting, the Globe reports, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced the Senate would vote next week on health care reform. Click here to read more.

In Real Clear Politics, Andy Puzder makes the case as to why Obamacare must be repealed and replaced, arguing Democrats want to create an expensive state-run single payer system and Republicans have a far better alternative, which will decrease federal control and improve healthcare.

In
USA Today, Director of the White House Trade Council Peter Navarro writes that “President Trump has been hard at work to save our jobs and revive manufacturing,” highlighting the many actions taken to make this administration “a Made in America presidency.”

Six months into the Trump Presidency, Sebastian Gorka in
The Hill outlines how the Trump Administration is working to translate the President’s efforts to Make America Great Again onto the world stage.

At
The Daily Signal, Rep. Ron Estes writes that the American people have made clear that they want regulatory relief and tax reform from their government, and that the current moment provides “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to enact these needed solutions to grow the economy.

In doing just that – and making good on a campaign promise – the
Washington Examiner reports the Trump administration has repealed 16 regulations for every new one issued, putting the administration “ahead of schedule” on the President’s push to repeal two regulations for every new one issued.

A Message From The President

The White House to you
Friday, July 21, 2017

A Message From The President
Yesterday, I met with Republican Senators at the White House and told them that now is the time for action. Obamacare was a big lie. “You can keep your doctor”—lie. “You can keep your plan”—lie. Now, people are hurting, and inaction is not an option. We must repeal and replace this disaster. The Senate should not leave for summer recess until it has passed a plan to give our people great healthcare. I’m ready to act; I have pen in hand. I’ll sign the legislation into law, and then we can celebrate for the American people.
- President Donald J. Trump
