Special edition: The state of our union

The White House to you
Thursday, February 01, 2018

The state of our union “Less than one year has passed since I first stood at this podium, in this majestic chamber, to speak on behalf of the American People,” President Donald J. Trump began his address last night. “Each day since, we have gone forward with a clear vision and a righteous mission—to make America great again for all Americans.”
The President’s speech is available in full here. He spoke from the heart about a core set of issues that unite Americans of all stripes in both their values and their patriotism:
Tax reform and the economy: “Just as I promised the American people from this podium 11 months ago, we enacted the biggest tax cuts and reform in American history. . . . Roughly 3 million workers have already gotten tax cut bonuses.”

  • Reshaping Washington: “In our drive to make Washington accountable, we have eliminated more regulations in our first year than any administration in the history of our country.”
  • Immigration reform: “Struggling communities, especially immigrant communities, will also be helped by immigration policies that focus on the best interests of American workers and American families.”
  • Getting trade right: “America has also finally turned the page on decades of unfair trade deals that sacrificed our prosperity and shipped away our companies, our jobs, and our wealth.”
  • Rebuilding our infrastructure: “America is a nation of builders. We built the Empire State Building in just one year – isn’t it a disgrace that it can now take ten years just to get a minor permit approved for the building of a simple road?”
  • Keeping America safe: “I am proud to report that the coalition to defeat ISIS has liberated very close to 100 percent of the territory just recently held by these killers in Iraq and in Syria.”
  • “As long as we are proud of who we are and what we are fighting for, there is nothing we cannot achieve,” the President said. “As long as we have confidence in our values, faith in our citizens, and trust in our God, we will never fail.”
“Together, we are building a safe, strong, and proud America.”
Bonus: See what people are saying on Twitter about the speech.

Expect Trump's State of the Union to celebrate America — and provide a roadmap to the future

    The White House to you
    Wednesday, January 31, 2018

Expect Trump's State of the Union to celebrate America — and provide a roadmap to the future
“In his first year leading the nation, President Trump has achieved numerous victories and delivered huge benefits to the American people,” Armstrong Williams writes in The Hill.

“The forthcoming State of the Union address will be an important milestone in the Trump presidency,” Armstrong writes. “This address will be an opportunity to outline and discuss the various ways the president has made good on his promises to improve the lives of our people, and to outline his vision for what he will do to restore America to greatness.”

The Washington Times Editorial Board writes that “anyone, even a Democrat reluctant to say so, can see that the economic state of the Union is pretty good.” The Board notes that “businesses have committed to expansion, paying bonuses and raising wages because of — and they are specific about this — the Trump tax cuts.”

Investor’s Business Daily's Editorial Board writes that while wage growth has been the missing element for the economy in recent years, “thankfully, that's now coming to an end.” The Board explains that we’re now seeing “a wave of pay raises, bonuses and new investments by major corporations fueled by the passage of Trump's tax cuts in December — evidence of a surge in economic growth.”

Kate Rogers reports in CNBC that “fueled by tax reform, deregulation and an upbeat economy, the franchise industry is set for another year of strong momentum.” Rogers notes that for the franchise industry “the Trump Administration's work in removing regulatory barriers and stimulating the economy have helped to encourage growth.”

McClatchy DC reports President Trump has gained momentum on immigration as he “delivers a State of the Union address on Tuesday night and then sends lawmakers marching toward yet another deadline for a DACA deal.” Alex Roarty writes that “immigration has become a wedge between factions on the left — with progressives outlining a strategy of aggressive confrontation while centrists worry about political fallout in red states.”
“The recently approved Trump tax reform package has supercharged business optimism according to global banker UBS,” Paul Bedard writes in Washington Examiner. “UBS said that the combination of a surging U.S. economy, new tax rate cuts, expected infrastructure investments and a significant reduction in regulations has companies, by a two-to-one margin planning to hire more workers and invest more in their companies,” Bedard explains.

    Wednesday, January 31, 2018

Previewing tonight’s State of the Union Tonight at 9 p.m. ET, President Donald J. Trump will deliver his first State of the Union Address before Congress. The speech will outline the record-setting accomplishments of his first year and lay out the Administration’s vision for the next 12 months: building a safe, strong, and proud America.

Tax cuts and the economy: The biggest overhaul of the U.S. tax code in at least three decades is already fueling an economic boom.
  • Infrastructure: President Trump will outline a $1 trillion investment for a large-scale, fast rebuild of America’s depleted infrastructure.
  • Immigration: The President will explain his framework on immigration reform, including border security, DACA legalization, protecting the nuclear family, and replacing the visa lottery with a skills-based approach.
  • Trade: Building on the President’s address at Davos last week, America will insist on trade deals that are fair and reciprocal.
  • National security: America is returning to “peace through strength” in world affairs, making our stances clear to friends and enemies alike.
  • Watch the State of the Union Address live at 9 p.m. ET.
Bonus: See who President Trump and the First Lady invited to be tonight’s special guests.
    The ‘denuking’ of North Korea
President Trump joined members of the United Nations Security Council for a lunch meeting yesterday, discussing “a range of security challenges, including the denuking of North Korea.” He was accompanied by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly, and National Security Adviser Gen. H. R. McMaster.
“We’re leading on the global stage to renew this founding principle of sovereignty,” the President told reporters before lunch. “I think we’re taking the world along with us.”
The meeting also covered how to counter Iran’s destabilization efforts across the Middle East, put an end to the conflict in Syria, and confront terrorism the world over.

Alex Azar sworn in as HHS secretary
Alex Azar, former Deputy Secretary for Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush, was sworn in yesterday as the newest official member of President Trump’s Cabinet.
“It’s a very special day for me, because we’ve been looking for this day for a long time,” the President said. “I’m thrilled to be here to administer the Oath of Office to America’s new Secretary of Health and Human Services, Mr. Alex Azar.”
“As you heard from the President today,” Secretary Azar said, the solemn charge of this office “includes his personal direction to me that we have to tackle the scourge of the opiate crisis, and we will bring down prescription drug prices.”

    The year in speeches

    The White House to you
    Tuesday, January 30, 2018

The year in speeches Tomorrow night, President Donald J. Trump will address Americans in the first State of the Union address of his presidency. He’ll lay out the biggest milestones from his first year in office—tax reform, a budget that rebuilds the U.S. military, and so on—before explaining his priorities for year two.
Before turning to the next chapter, today we revisit a few of the President’s most important addresses from his first year. There are plenty to choose from, but a few quotes stand out:

    • “Now we are calling for a great reawakening of nations, for the revival of their spirits, their pride, their people, and their patriotism.”
    • “I declare today for the world to hear that the West will never, ever be broken. Our values will prevail, our people will thrive, and our civilization will triumph.”
    • “I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”
See the Facebook album of President Trump’s “Speeches of Year One.”
POLL: Majority of Americans agree with the President on immigration
As the White House released its framework on immigration reform and border security last week, a recent Harvard-Harris Poll confirms that President Trump’s approach resonates with a majority of Americans.
Saagar Enjeti of The Daily Caller delivers the sentence that Congress should be paying close attention to in the weeks ahead:
“The poll, weighted to be broadly representative of the U.S. population, found that 65% of voters overall agreed with Trump’s position that any bill codifying Obama-era protections for illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children should be accompanied by funding for a wall, ending chain migration, and ending the diversity visa lottery program.”
Enjeti continues that “the individual elements of each of Trump’s demands remain broadly popular as well.”
Read more: “POLL: Majority of Americans Agree with Trump on DACA, Immigration”
More jobs, more opportunity, more growth
A little more than one year after President Trump took office, the U.S. economy continues to soar to new heights. During the past week, for instance, American workers, businesses, and families have all witnessed headlines that show the American economy is back:

    • MARKETWATCH: S&P 500 Breaks 54-Year-Old Record For All-Time Highs Notched In January
    • CNBC: The Dow’s 31% Gain During Trump’s First Year Is The Best Since FDR
    • THE HILL: Poll: Satisfaction With Economy Reaches 17-Year High
    • THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: The Tax Law, Just One Month Old, Is Roaring Through U.S. Companies

President brings ‘America First’ to Davos

    The White House to you
    Saturday, January 27, 2018

President brings ‘America First’ to Davos President Donald J. Trump addressed the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting—more commonly known as “Davos”—this morning to tell global leaders why “America First” won’t mean the rest of the world falls behind.
"Only by insisting on fair and reciprocal trade can we create a system that works not just for the United States but for all nations," the President said. He also made his pitch for investing in the U.S. economy. "America is open for business and we are competitive once again."
Yesterday, President Trump spent his first full day in Switzerland bolstering relationships with key allies. He met with British Prime Minister Theresa May before holding a bilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later in the afternoon.
While both meetings covered a range of issues, trade was an important common thread.
“We continue to have that really special relationship between the UK and the United States, standing shoulder-to -shoulder because we're facing the same challenges across the world,” Prime Minister May told reporters after meeting with President Trump.
Watch President Trump’s speech to Davos attendees here.

    ‘We remember’
Tomorrow will mark 73 years to the day when the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was liberated from Nazi control. In recognition of tomorrow’s International Holocaust Remembrance Day, First Lady Melania Trump visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum yesterday.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the people whose lives and families were broken by the horrors of the Holocaust,” the First Lady said. “Yet it is also through our shared humanity that we come together now in commemoration, strength, and love.”
The First Lady concluded her tour at the Hall of Remembrance, participating in a moment of silence by the Eternal Flame Memorial followed by a lighting of a candle at the Prayer Wall.
“My heart is with you, and we remember.”
See photos from the First Lady’s visit here.
White House releases framework on immigration
The White House released a framework on immigration reform and border security yesterday to support Congress’ effort in the coming weeks to reach a bipartisan compromise.
The framework lays out in clear detail what President Trump expects for any reform bill to earn his signature:

    • Border security: The Department of Homeland Security must have the tools to deter illegal immigration, including physical infrastructure, technology, resources, and personnel.
    • DACA legalization: The President hopes for legal status to be extended to DACA recipients and other DACA-eligible illegal immigrants, with a 10-12 year path to citizenship based on requirements for work, education, and character.
    • Protect the nuclear family: Congress should promote nuclear family migration by limiting family sponsorships to spouses and minor children.
    • Eliminate the lottery and repurpose Visas: The current Visa Lottery system selects individuals at random to come to the United States without consideration of skills, merit, or public safety. Our intake system must better serve the national interest.
See an overview of the framework here.

    An American in Switzerland

    The White House to you
    Friday, January 26, 2018

An American in Switzerland President Donald J. Trump arrived in Davos, Switzerland, early this morning—one day before he becomes only the second American president to address the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting.
Davos draws some of the world’s most powerful politicians and business leaders. President Trump is attending because he wants to deliver them a message: An “America First” agenda is a great thing for the global economy.
    Here’s why:
    * America is committed to global growth and prosperity. When the U.S. economy grows, so does the world’s. * The Trump Administration supports free and open trade—but free trade cannot flourish unless all countries are held accountable to the rules.
    * Leaders must reform, not abandon, the international economic system. America’s goal is to make the global economy work for all sovereign nations, not to dismantle it.
Read more about what President Trump will do in Switzerland.
Jeff Sessions on President Trump: ‘Promise delivered’
“When President Trump was inaugurated, he made the American people a promise: ‘This American carnage stops right here and stops right now,’” Attorney General Jeff Sessions writes in an op-ed for USA Today.
“It is a promise that he has kept.”
Attorney General Sessions focuses on America’s renewed fight against crime under President Trump. In 2017, the Department of Justice hit more than a few milestones:
    * B ringing “cases against more violent criminals than in any year in decades”* Charging the most firearm prosecutions at the federal level in a decade
    * Convicting nearly 500 human traffickers, along with 1,200 gang members
    * Witnessing the first decline in the number of officers killed on duty since 2013
The Attorney General’s parting thought: “Crime rates are not like the tides — we can help change them. And under Trump’s strong leadership, we will.”
Read the op-ed from Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
More than 100 mayors come to the White House
Yesterday, President Trump met with more than 100 mayors from across the country in the East Room of the White House. The bipartisan group represented communities both urban and rural, and they joined in a panel discussion with housing, transportation, and development experts from across the Administration.
“We have some really hardworking people in this room,” President Trump told attendees before reiterating the White House’s commitment to supporting local government. He emphasized that America’s economic comeback is translating into record-low unemployment for women, African-Americans, and Hispanics.
Read more: “You're very, very important to the future of this country.”

125,000 Disney employees to receive $1,000 cash bonus due to tax reform

    The White House to you
    Friday, January 26, 2018

125,000 Disney employees to receive $1,000 cash bonus due to tax reform

In the wake of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act’s signing, Disney will pay “over 125,000 employees a one-time cash bonus of $1,000, as well as make a new $50 million investment into education program for employees,” CNBC reports.
“Disney says both initiatives are due to recent tax reform,” Michael Sheetz writes. “Some of the biggest companies in the United States have been giving out bonuses to employees, often citing the recently-passed tax bill as the motive.”

“Starbucks is dishing out pay increases and stock bonuses to employees, becoming the latest major employer to boost compensation” as a result of tax cuts, USA Today reports. “Altogether, Starbucks said it would spend more than $250 million on the increased wages and benefits,” Nathan Bomey writes. “The company credited ‘recent changes in the U.S. tax law,’ saying they ‘accelerated’ the decision.”

Joseph Lawler reports in Washington Examiner on a new survey from the Job Creators Network that shows “64 percent of small business owners see Trump's policy changes as helping their businesses.” In addition to the President’s general economic management, “the historic tax cuts legislation is already having positive impacts on small businesses and our economy,” says Alfredo Ortiz, president of the Job Creators Network.

Craig Stevens writes in The Hill that “domestic energy production is surging to historic levels, fueling economic growth and job creation.” Given that American oil output could soon top 10 million barrels a day, “this growth has resulted in a number of economic benefits for the U.S.: reducing our reliance on international energy resources, creating steady jobs in rural communities, and reducing consumer prices for products like gasoline,” Stevens writes.

In The Wall Street Journal, Mick Mulvaney, acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, says “the days of aggressively ‘pushing the envelope’ are over.” What does that mean? “The CFPB has a new mission: We will exercise, with humility and prudence, the almost unparalleled power Congress has bestowed on us to enforce the law faithfully in furtherance of our mandate. But we go no further.”

President Trump: A year of real change

    The White House to you
    Thursday, January 25, 2018

President Trump: A year of real change “Even as Democrats continue to obstruct and play politics, I have never stopped fighting for the people, and I have no intention of changing course,” President Donald J. Trump writes in Washington Examiner.

“We are putting America first, making real change in Washington, and creating opportunities for all of our people,” the President explains. “From coast to coast, there is a renewed spirit. Our country is roaring back more quickly than anyone could have predicted. The American Dream is real again.”

Rich Lowry writes in the New York Post that Sen. Chuck Schumer started a government shutdown he wasn’t able to finish. “He believed any charge could be made to stick to President Trump, no matter how implausible, and chose the dictates of an inflamed Democratic base over common sense,” Lowry explains. “His embarrassing climbdown after a short, mostly weekend shutdown shows the limits of the Resistance.”

“Since the 2016 election, President Donald Trump has nominated judges who have a demonstrated commitment to, as the president puts it, interpreting the Constitution ‘the way it was meant to be,’” Leonard Leo writes in Newsweek. “The 'judicial wave' of 2017 was a very important benchmark of political success,” Leo says. “And, looking ahead to the rest of 2018, it is likely to become the GOP leadership’s case-in-chief for redoubling unified and intense action on the many federal judicial nominees the president still has to nominate and get confirmed.”

In The Wall Street Journal, Andy Puzder, former CEO of CKE Restaurants, writes that “more than 120 major employers have announced significant tax-cut-induced wage increases and employee bonuses.” And businesses of all sizes are joining the rush. “Small businesses rarely make such announcements, but rest assured many are following suit as they compete for employees,” Puzder writes.

Financial Times (paywall) reports that JPMorgan Chase will “increase wages for its lowest-paid workers and reverse its recent trend of branch closures” thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. These steps come as part of a $20 billion investment plan that the bank says will “increase its lending to small businesses and create thousands of new jobs,” Nicholas Megaw writes.

    More than a paper diploma

    The White House to you
    Thursday, January 25, 2018

More than a paper diploma “There are a great many reasons to support education choice,” then-Cato analyst Jason Bedrick wrote in 2016. “One reason is simply this: it works.”
This week is National School Choice Week, made official by President Donald J. Trump in a proclamation issued Monday. Just three decades ago, charter schools didn’t exist. Today, more than 3 million students are enrolled in such programs.
Two principles guide the Administration’s vision for school choice: opportunity and results. “Communities that provide academic options — traditional public, public charter, private, magnet, parochial, virtual, and homeschooling — empower parents and guardians to select the best educational fit for their children,” the President wrote.
In aggregate, those opportunities turn into a global competitive edge for America.
Read more: “Our students deserve more than just a paper diploma.”
Vice President Pence returns to Washington
Vice President Mike Pence returned from a four-day trip to the Middle East last night, during which he met with President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi of Egypt, His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin of Israel.
Here are a few highlights of the Vice President’s trip, in his own words:
    • “I can’t help but marvel at the strength of the relationship that President Trump and [Egyptian] President Al Sisi have forged, after years where our two countries were drifting apart.”
    • To U.S. troops of the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing: “You’ve answered the call to confront, and defeat, the embodiment of evil in our time — the barbarians known as ISIS.”
    • To the Knesset in Israel: “In the weeks ahead, our administration will advance its plan to open the United States Embassy in Jerusalem, and that United States Embassy will open before the end of next year.

President Trump’s op-ed: ‘A year of real change’
Congressional Democrats greeted President Trump’s first-year anniversary in office with a shutdown of the federal government. Despite their attempt to grab headlines, President Trump is confident his Administration’s record to date speaks for itself.
One excerpt from the piece: “Estimates predict the U.S. economy grew at an annualized rate of more than 3 percent in the fourth quarter of last year – just like it did in the two quarters before that. The economy has created more than two million new jobs, and the unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest rate in 17 years: 4.1 percent.”
The President closes with a nod to the “forgotten man” theme of his campaign: “After one year, I am proud to report to the American people that we truly are making America great again – for all Americans!”

    Open for business

    The White House to you
    Wednesday, January24, 2018

Open for business President Donald J. Trump signed H.R. 195 in the White House Treaty Room last night, which included an extension of continuing appropriations that officially ended the Senate Democrats’ 3-day shutdown of the federal government.
The President expressed satisfaction that congressional Democrats signed onto a deal to fund the military, first responders, and health insurance for vulnerable children. “As I have always said, once the Government is funded, my Administration will work toward solving the problem of very unfair illegal immigration,” President Trump said.
“We will make a long-term deal on immigration if, and only if, it is good for our country.”
Press Secretary Sarah Sanders answered questions yesterday about the next steps toward striking such a deal. “We certainly want to negotiate,” she said, adding that the Administration’s priorities haven’t changed: “a solution on DACA, end to chain migration, end to the visa lottery system, and funding for border security—and that would certainly include the wall.”

    Life Is Winning in America

    The White House to you
    Tuesday, January 23, 2018

Life Is Winning in America In National Review, Vice President Mike Pence writes that “since the outset of this administration, we’ve taken historic action to protect the most vulnerable in our society.”
“In short, life is winning in America again,” the Vice President Pence explains. “It’s winning because of the policies of our administration, and because of the commitment and compassion of those who gather today in our nation’s capital, and in marches, meetings, and homes all across the country.” Click here to read more.

CNBC reports that the “Dow has surged more than 31 percent since Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, 2017.” President Trump has “lifted the Dow Jones industrial average in his first year in office more than any other president since Franklin Roosevelt,” Fred Imbert writes.

Dave Boyer writes in The Washington Times that “one year since Mr. Trump’s inauguration, it looks very much like the economy is lifting off.” Boyer explains “President Trump marks his first year in office Saturday riding a wave of strong economic news, including a record-high stock market, a low unemployment rate and computer giant Apple’s decision to bring back hundreds of billions of dollars from overseas and create 20,000 U.S. jobs, spurred by Republican tax cuts.”

In The Hill, Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY), writes that “under President Trump’s leadership, we have seen explosive economic growth, and now the pump is primed for further economic expansion with our tax reform legislation and the repeal of hundreds of job killing regulations.” Rep. Collins adds that "this once-in-a-generation reform was a tall order, but we owe it to President Trump for being what we elected him to be, a successful CEO.”

Washington Examiner highlighted Defense Secretary Jim Mattis’ new national defense strategy, “We are emerging from a period of strategic atrophy,” Sec. Mattis declared today. “This is a great strategy. It gives new credibility to the U.S. military's longstanding mission: that, ‘should deterrence fail, the joint force is prepared to win,’” Tom Rogan writes.

    The 45th March for Life

    The White House to you
    Saturday, January 20, 2018

The 45th March for Life Thirty-eight years ago, Nellie Gray left her job as a Labor Department attorney to start a small nonprofit organization. Today, that group—the March for Life Education and Defense Fund—is responsible for organizing the largest annual pro-life rally in the world.
President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will join the event via video satellite from the White House Rose Garden this afternoon.
Last year, an estimated 500,000 people attended the march to support a cause that has grown immensely since the first event in 1974. The annual trek along the National Mall to the U.S. Capitol is the most visible symbol of March for Life's vision: "a world where every human life is valued and protected."
Watch live at 12:15 p.m. ET.
A month after the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act
President Trump signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act into law on December 22. Yesterday, he traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to talk about the impact the legislation has had in just a few short weeks.
The stories keep rolling in. More than 2 million American workers have gotten a “Trump bonus” or “Trump pay raise.” The net tax burden on American families has fallen by $3.2 trillion. Chrysler has announced that it will move truck production from Mexico back to the United States.
H&K Equipment, where the President spoke yesterday, is investing back into its own company at a rate 50 percent higher than last year—and directly credits tax cuts for providing them with the ability to expense 100 percent of the investments they make in new equipment.
Watch President Trump tour the H&K Equipment Company in Pittsburgh.
    A year to remember
Tomorrow marks one full year since Donald J. Trump swore the oath of office on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to become the 45th President of the United States.
“Today’s ceremony . . . has very special meaning,” President Trump told the country. “Because today we are not merely transferring power from one Administration to another, or from one party to another – but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American People.”
In the year since, President Trump has met with thousands of Americans from coast to coast, hosted numerous foreign dignitaries in Washington, and traveled to 13 foreign countries to represent the United States abroad.

Jobless claims drop to lowest level in nearly 45 years

    The White House to you
    Saturday, January 20, 2018

Jobless claims drop to lowest level in nearly 45 years Washington Examiner reports that “new applications for unemployment insurance benefits plunged by 41,000 to 220,000 in the second week of 2018, the Labor Department reported Thursday”—the lowest level they’ve reached in nearly 45 years. “Low jobless claims are a good sign because they suggest that layoffs are relatively scarce,” Joseph Lawler writes.

According to Federal Reserve data reported by Bloomberg, “U.S. factory production rose for a fourth straight month in December, capping the strongest quarter since 2010 and underscoring a resurgence in manufacturing that’s primed for further advances.” What’s driving the uptick? “Stronger consumer spending, increased business investment and more shipments of merchandise to overseas customers are providing plenty of fuel for the nation’s producers,” Katia Dmitrieva writes.

Christopher Buskirk writes in USA Today that President Donald J. Trump’s first year in office has been a story of promises kept. “By every measure of personal and national prosperity, the nation is better off than it was a year ago, and it's thanks to the integrity of our leader,” Buskirk writes.

In Washington Examiner, Paul Bedard explains that Budget Director Mick Mulvaney is looking out for American taxpayers as he skips “the usual ask for millions of dollars to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau he is temporarily running.” Bedard writes that this move is “just the latest one by Mulvaney to lead the administration’s efforts to cut spending, trim waste, reduce regulations and slim down the federal workforce.”

This town is proof that Trump’s wall can work

    The White House to you
    Thursday, January 18, 2018

This town is proof that Trump’s wall can work
Paul Sperry in the New York Post

“Federal data show a far-less imposing wall than the one Trump envisions — a two-story corrugated metal fence first erected under the Bush administration — already has dramatically curtailed both illegal border crossings and crime in Texas’ sixth-largest city,” Paul Sperry writes.
The secure barrier has helped El Paso, Texas, “become one of the safest large cities in America”—despite its proximity to Juarez, Mexico, which is considered to be among the most dangerous places in the world. “Before 2010, federal data show the border city was mired in violent crime and drug smuggling, thanks in large part to illicit activities spilling over” the border, Sperry explains.
In The Washington Times, Stephen Moore argues that “the just-enacted Trump tax bill already proved [its] critics wrong.” Moore says that along with the recent Walmart announcement, “more than 100 companies that have offered bonuses and benefit hikes to their workers due to the tax cut. An estimated one million workers have benefited. This after one month.”

Washington Examiner’s editorial board writes that Fiat Chrysler’s recent announcement that it will make “Ram trucks in Michigan instead of Mexico beginning in 2020” is just one more example of good economic news to come. “Reducing the tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent weighs heavily, and in many cases, it will tip the balance in favor of America,” the board says.
